Husker Highlights Volume 7: The Dreaded Polls Edition09/25/2007

So I was having this discussion with my friends yesterday, and we were arguing whether or not the Huskers are being treated unfairly in the National Polls. After a 1 point win over the Ball State Cardinals, the Huskers were dropped in the AP Poll to 25th, and held steady in the coaches poll at 22nd. My buddies were irate that teams such as Alabama, Florida, and Louisville were not punished equally in the polls after their stumbles, or outright losses.

My argument was, they had no business complaining about where we were in the polls after the performance we put forth on Saturday, and that we aren’t at the current moment, a Top 25 team so we should be glad we didn’t drop out all together, as I had thought we would. I’d like to hear what you people think, is Nebraska treated more harshly than other big name teams? Why would this be the case? Feel free to comment within this article.

Okay, now on to the odds and ends……Much embattled Husker Defensive Coordinator didn’t do himself a lot of favors with Husker fans with his comments after the game on Saturday. I truly believe that many fans were expecting something along the lines of an apology after his defence’s performance, and to hear him talk almost glowingly about a unit that gave up over 600 yards of total offense was more than most could bare. My two cents is the comments were 1 part protecting his players, who were booed by the home crowd, and 1 part protecting his job. Cosgrove would do his good friend, Head Coach Bill Callahan a huge favor if he were to resign at the end of the year, and not force Callahan to decide to fire him.

Week 4: Report Card and Recap09/25/2007

How bad is our defense? I long for the days of Craig Bohl, that’s how bad our defense is. What’s more, I’m really beginning to wonder whether Coach Cosgrove and his staff bother to watch game
film of their upcoming opponents.

In my weekly game preview, I mentioned that if we were going to stop the Ball State offense, we needed to contain wide receiver Dante Love, and tight end Darius Hill. Apparently the defense
didn’t get the memo, as Love caught 11 passes for 238 yards and 2 TDs, and Darius Hill had 4 catches for 67 yards and a TD.

I pride myself on not making snap judgements on what the team’s problem is when we struggle, because I am not a coach, or player, and am not at the practices, but this defense is simply one of
the worst I’ve seen at Nebraska, and at some point it comes back to coaching. For the 3rd straight week, I saw an unprepared, and unmotivated defense take the field.....READ MORE
